楼主文不对题阿，这题目里哪有individual 哪有creating 和reactions?
主句前是前置的状语，主句主语是survival，谓语depends，后面是if从句。可以从主谓信息来看，if在这里是“是否”的意思。在GMAT里面，表达是否最好用whether，所以A排除。C选项whether or not啰嗦，语义重复。DE改变原文语义。原文表达依赖于是否能broaden and leave，而DE直接是依赖于能力，这个能力可以是大小，和原文的是否不一样。

这里intensifying....是由现在分词引导的状语从句，这里是作伴随状语。强调retail sales rise和intensify两个动作同时发生。
