allow既可作及物动词又可作不及物动词(多用于及物动词)，
1）allow sb. to do sb.允许某人去做某事，
The doctor allowed him to smoke. 医生允许他吸烟.
2）allow sb doing sth.允许某人做某事,可以表示当前可允许做的事或习惯性动作。根据上下文有时sb可以省略。如：
Is not allow (anyone)smoking in this meeting room. 这间会议室里是不允许吸烟的.
类似的词还有:advise,forbid, permit, encourage等,如:
3) We advised him to have a good rest. 我们劝他好好休息.
4) He advised going to Beijing for the holiday. 他建议到北京去度假.
1. allow意为“允许；许可”，常用于“allow sb. to do sth.”结构，表示“允许某人做某事”。allow后面可接动名词作宾语，不可用动词不定式作宾语，即： allow doing sth.“允许做某事”。如：
My father allowed me to play basketball after finishing my homework. 我的父亲允许我做完作业后打篮球。
They do not allow smoking in public. 他们不允许在公共场合吸烟。
[注意] allow用于被动语态时，必须接不定式作宾语补足语，不能接动名词形式。“Sb. / Sth. + be allowed + to do sth.”结构，也可在allow后面接介词短语，即“Sb. / Sth. + be allowed + 介词短语”。如：
Women were not allowed to take part in the games. 妇女是不允许参加这些比赛的。
I don't allow dogs in the house. 我不允许狗进屋。
2. allow意为“让……得到；同意给予”，后面接双宾语。如：
How much money does your father allow you every week? 你爸爸每周给你多少钱？
3. allow意为“承认”，后面可跟从句，也可跟“to be”复合宾语。如：
We had to allow that he was the best teacher we had met. 我们不得不承认他是我们遇到的最好的老师。
We must allow him to be a genius. 我们必须承认他是个天才。
4. allow for 表示“考虑到；体谅”。如：
You have to allow for the weather there. 你不得不考虑到那里的天气。
5. allow还常与 out, in, up等副词搭配使用，即 allow sb. in / out / up等。如：
The patient was allowed up after ten days. 十天后这位病人才被允许起床(下地)。
[注意] 口语中常说Allow me!（让我来吧！），用于表示要抢先做某事，以表示客气。

①Please allow me to carry your bag.
请让我替你拿包。
②My boss doesn't allow me to use the telephone.
我的老板不允许我用电话。
③We were allowed to smoke in this room only.
我们只许在这间屋子里抽烟。
2)allow 作“许可”，“允许”讲，只可搭配动名词短语作宾语，不可直接搭用动词不定式作宾补，即只可说 allow doing sth., 不可说allow to do sth.
①They allowed smoking in this room only.
他们只允许在这间屋子里抽烟。
②Smoking is not allowed here.
此处禁止吸烟。
3)allow还常与 out, in, up等副词搭配使用，即 allow sb. in/out/up等。
①She won't allow the children in until they've wiped their shoes.
直到孩子们把鞋擦干净，她才让他们进来。
②She is not allowed out after dark.
天黑后，不准她出去。
③The patient was allowed up after ten days.
十天后病人才被允许起床(下地)。
【注意】下面的独立主格结构，表示条件
Circumstances allowing, we shall further improve out farming method.(即 If circumstances allow, we shall further improve our farming method.)如果情况许可的话，我们将进一步改进工作方法。
1.allow (doing) sth 允许(做)某事。如：
The facts allow no other explanation. 事实不允许有其他的解释。
2. allow sb to do sth 允许某人做某事。如：
My parents don’t allow me to go out at night. 我父母不允许我晚上出去。
3. allow sb sth 给予某人某物(尤指钱或时间)；让某人有(拥用或带有)某物。如：
He allows his son too much money. 他给他儿子的钱太多。
4. allow for 考虑到，把……考虑进来，体谅。如：
We should allow for every possible delay. 我们考虑到任何可能的延误
