Growth That Starts From Thinking
It seems to me a very difficult thing to put into words the beliefs we hold and what they make you do in your life. I think I was fortunate because I grew up in a family where there was a very deep religious feeling. I don’t think it was spoken of a great deal. It was more or less taken for granted that everybody held certain beliefs and needed certain reinforcements of their own strength and that that came through your belief in God and your knowledge of prayer.
But as I grew older I questioned a great many of the things that I knew very well my grandmother who had brought me up had taken for granted. And I think I might have been a quite difficult person to live with if it hadn’t been for the fact that my husband once said it didn’t do you any harm to learn those things, so why not let your children learn them? When they grow up they’ll think things out for themselves.
And that gave me a feeling that perhaps that’s what we all must do—think out for ourselves what we could believe and how we could live by it. And so I came to the conclusion that you had to use this life to develop the very best that you could develop.
I don’t know whether I believe in a future life. I believe that all that you go through here must have some value, therefore there must be some reason. And there must be some “going on.” How exactly that happens I’ve never been able to decide. There is a future—that I’m sure of. But how, that I don’t know. And I came to feel that it didn’t really matter very much because whatever the future held you’d have to face it when you came to it, just as whatever life holds you have to face it exactly the same way. And the important thing was that you never let down doing the best that you were able to do—it might be poor because you might not have very much within you to give, or to help other people with, or to live your life with. But as long as you did the very best that you were able to do, then that was what you were put here to do and that was what you were accomplishing by being here.
And so I have tried to follow that out—and not to worry about the future or what was going to happen. I think I am pretty much of a fatalist. You have to accept whatever comes and the only important thing is that you meet it with courage and with the best that you have to give.
在思考中成长
我的信念是什么，它在我的人生中起到了什么作用------这些问题我觉得很难用言语解释清楚。我认为自己很幸运，因为我出生在一个笃信宗教的家庭。家里人对宗教谈论得并不多。每个人心中或多或少都有某些信仰，都希望通过某种方式获得力量，而这力量就来自信奉上帝并懂得如何祈祷。
我是在祖母身边长大的。随着年龄的增长，我对许多祖母视作理所当然的事产生了怀疑。我甚至拒绝让孩子们接触这些东西，似乎成了一个不近情理的人。直到有一次我丈夫劝我，这些东西你年少时也接触过，对你也并无坏处。既然如此，何不让孩子们也有了解它们的机会呢？他们长大以后会独立思考这些问题的。
他的话使我感到或许我们每个人都应该这样做------独立思考自己应该信仰什么以及如何在生活中坚守自己的的信仰。我认为人一生就应该尽全力做最好的自己------我想这就是我的信仰。
我不知道自己是否相信未来。我相信的是我们现在经历的一切一定有价值，因此必有某些道理，也必然预示着有些事情“将要发生”。但这些事情如何发生，我却不能决定。一定有未来------对此我深信不疑。但它会怎样降临。我不知道，然而着一点，我渐渐感到并不重要。因为无论未来如何，我们到时候总得面对，正如无论生活中发生了什么，我们都必须面对一样。真正重要的是要倾尽自己的全力。也许你能力有限、贡献不多，无法给予他人更多的帮助，或者无法活得那么精彩，但只要你能倾尽自己的全力，你就能完成来到人世间的使命，能体现人生的价值。
这就是我一直奉行的生活原则------不担心未来的事，也不为下一刻发生的事操心。我想我算是一个相信宿命的人吧。无论发生什么，我们都得勇敢面对，关键是面对的时候我们要勇敢，要倾尽自己的全力。

respectable juedges, ladies and gentlemen,
when hong kong returned to china's sovereignty in 1997, the primary school where i was studying then held a speech contest. that is my very first speech in my life. wearing a white skirt and short-haired, i stood on the stage with the smile biggest ever, though the prize was only a small notebook. a few days before the event, i had a quarrel with mum. she kept me editting and reciting the speech paper again and again. this is tolerable, but what raged me was mum's strictness over me. when to pause, how long to pause, how to make rhythm, and even how to pronaunce, gesture and eye-contact. why bother? she is the teacher in this school. if she'd like, she could ask the judges to do her a favor. i left without looking back.

Firstly, health is the secret of happiness.Only a strong man can enjoy the pleasure of life.So if you want to get happiness,you must take more exercise and eat healthily so that you can have a healthy body.
Secondly, happiness consists in contentment. A man who is dissatisfied with present condition is always in distress.So please value what you have at the moment and enjoy them with a grateful heart .Don't complain all the time and you'll be more happier.
what's more,you will feel happily when you share nice things with each other and help somebody out.It also can let you make more friends.If you are energy enough,you can be a volunteer.It must be nice and unforgettable.Last,having a nice dream and work hard for it is important,too.

Happiness is them most precious thing in life. Without it， a man will feel that his ill fate has taken charge of （支配） him and the world is utterly（完全地） dark and dreadful（可怕的）。 On that account，his body grows weaker， his work slackens（变松弛）， and above all， he thinks he would rather die than live. “how to be happy， then？” you may ask. Sometimes we may think that happiness is so faraway a thing that we couldn't touch it. But with time passing by,I gradually understand the meaning of happiness. It turns out to be easy. You know what？You could take everything as a reason to be happy. When you come across an old friend,you can feel happiness from the bottom of your heart. When you see someone else smile to you in the morning ,you might be happy the whole day？ When you find a letter which is written by your teacher,you may feel satisfaction. And when you give a seat to a pregnant woman you must be proud of yourself and be happy.
Remember when you just smile to the world,you will receive double of that.Believe it or not.Happiness is with you all the time and the most important thing is that you catch it and cherish it！
Dream Makes Man
Dozens of years ago, as the famous Negro Martin Luther King shouted to the America, “I have a dream, I have a dream”, did he notice that his declaration of freedom would be the light to those who fights for people’s liberty? And, as we can see, his dream made his legend, in other word dream makes people to be great. Right now I just wonder in the future whether I could be somebody like Martin Luther King who fought for people’s freedom or somebody like Bill Gates who donated all his fortune to help poor people or I’ll be like most people to be a nobody who gets a ordinary job and forms a family, living peacefully the rest life. No matter what kind of above, the point is no matter who you are, no matter where you are, please always have a dream. And this dream will make you get power to get progress; this dream will show you the direction like the beacon to the ship on the sea in the night.
From ancient time to the recent years, we see too many famous successful people like Confucius in China and Dr. King, as mentioned above, in the United States. Confucius made great influence to Chinese culture by his Confucianism, and Dr. King push the progress to the liberty of the blacks in the America. They both made great contribution to their country, and how they made this? Part of the reason why, I think, is that they had dreams that care about the people in the world. And more important, in my opinion of view, they throw their entire lives to make their dreams come true. That means they always keep learning, learning from books and learning from living lives. And this is what we need to learn: have a dream in mind and keep pursuing on it.
Through this we see that a dream is something we can make it come true by our hard working, and this is what a dream is different from a reverie. See this means we need to take action, if we really have a good dream. We need study well in the school, we need focus on the direction of our dream, and we need to remind ourselves from time to time: don’t forget our dreams. Maybe when others are playing basketball, but you are at the desk to figure out the difficult math exercises; maybe when others are watching TV series, but you are still on the books which you need in your composition. All these will be worth when you get to the top of your dreaming mountain. As the saying says, “mountain’s high, but man makes the peak”. So finally just let wish good luck to those who always have a dream in mind and keeps steps on it.
